Core Values

What fundamental principles are keeping us together? Why are we in this network? How are we different?

• GIG members are committed to constant curiosity, open collaboration, and sustainable impact. Our network is built on openness, trust, respect, love and magic*. We are driven and shaped by grassroots perspectives on development and social innovation.
• We believe in diversity and inclusion. All humans are equal! We respect different religious, political or ethnic views and arbitrary criteria such as gender, race, age, degree or position.
• We aim to contribute to creating open, sustainable, inclusive technologies. Further, we aim to employ technology to make the world a culturally, socially, environmentally and economically sustainable place for all to live in.
• We believe in the power of the community to solve challenges. We believe in solving problems locally and sustainably by utilising and/or establishing local infrastructures. However, we also believe in collaborating and working across borders to support developing, exchanging and adapting grassroots innovations to solve global problems.
• We believe in free and equal access to information, including education and opportunities and open access to knowledge and technology.
• Whether it’s building infrastructure, shaping policies, building solutions or managing communities, or researching, GIG is an alliance of people who believe in actively shaping their future, supporting their communities and taking responsibility.
• We believe in active citizenship, doing instead of waiting, and developing through grassroots initiatives. This includes research and education and creating or supporting technological innovation and debate.

GIG is pursuing a new vision for global cooperation and development based on equality, openness and sharing.

As an international network and NGO, we aim to create meaningful connections between innovators and positively impact the policies and frameworks for grassroots innovation.

• GIG enables cooperation and international exchange between innovators and social innovation spaces to support their work and share best practices.
• We support hub sustainability and peer-capacity development between members.

GIG aims to contribute to creating and using open, inclusive and sustainable technologies.

• GIG supports the collaborative creation of sustainable development and open, fair and inclusive technologies.
