Sign up for a Matrix account to join GIG channels. The first step in onboarding members of Global Innovation Gathering into Matrix and Element is to create an account on Matrix.

• First, go to the Matrix website (https://matrix.org) and click the “Sign Up” button. Next, follow the instructions to create an account and choose a username.
• Download and install the Element app: Once you have created your Matrix account, you must download and install the Element app (formerly known as Riot). Element is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. You can find the download links on the Element website (https://element.io). Once downloaded and installed, login to the app using your matrix credentials created in the first step.
• Join the Global Innovation Gathering community on Matrix: You will need an invite link to join the Global Innovation Gathering community on Matrix. You can request an invite link by emailing the GIG team at [email protected]. Once you have received the invite link, click it to join the community.
• Configure your Element settings: Before using Element, it’s a good idea to configure your settings. Click on the settings icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the Element app to access your settings. You can customise your notifications, appearance, and other preferences from there.
• Please familiarise yourself with the Element interface: Once you have joined the Global Innovation Gathering community on Matrix and configured your settings, it’s time to familiarise yourself with it. The interface consists of three main areas: the room list, the message list, and the message composer. Take some time to explore the interface and get comfortable with it.
• Start participating in the Global Innovation Gathering community: Now that you’re familiar with Element, it’s time to take part in the Global Innovation Gathering community. You can do this by joining existing rooms or creating new ones. To join a room, click on it in the room list. To create a new space, click the plus sign in the room list and follow the prompts.
• Please invite others to join the Global Innovation Gathering community: Finally, you can invite others to join the Global Innovation Gathering community on Matrix by sharing the invite link with them. You can find the invite link by clicking on the Global Innovation Gathering community in your room list and selecting “Room settings” from the menu.
